Top Tip: Pine cones are such a versatile craft tool! Dip them in washable paints, and then print them onto a piece of paper for unique designs that your kids will love. You can also create Autumn garlands out of pine cones that look beautiful in any home. 

Messy Mud Play

Create ‘mud paintings’ by adding soil to water and using a paintbrush to create their mud masterpieces. Mud can be used for so many things, and as long as your kids are wrapped up and wearing gloves, they can have hours of fun playing with dirt! Why not ask them to paint a tree and then use leaves from the garden to add to the branches? This one may fill the adults with dread, but it’s a great activity for little ones getting used to exploring their surroundings.

Dig a hole and add water to make a ‘mud dough’. Mix well with a stick or an old spoon; you can always add some sand to get it to the right consistency. 

Place the ‘mud dough’ into an old pan or cake tin, or get our little ones to mould the mud into the right shape if you don’t have any kitchenware to sacrifice!

Once the mud pie has been formed, decorate the top with your natural materials. Voila! One mud pie.
